This collection contains a book of botanical specimens collected by Frank W. George. George collected the eighty-four plant samples on or near the Iowa State College (University) campus grounds from May through October 1874 as a requirement for his sophomore year botany classes. The samples are carefully labeled with each plant's order, genus, species, habitat, and date collected. The book also contains seven samples collected and pressed by Frank George's aunt, Mary George, and given to him during his sophomore year at Iowa State. According to a note left in the book by Frank, Mary George's plants were originally collected in Kentucky in 1851.
